The Difference 8 Weeks Makes…

So, 8 weeks ago we collected Enzo from his mum and he instantly became part of our family..

A pure bred blue Italian Greyhound, we’d been on the lookout for what seemed like ages and then, by chance, we received details of a fairly local breeder. Now lockdown has brought out the worst in some people and puppy farms, ludicrous pricing are just a few of the things you need to be wary of, let alone the numerous reported thefts due to the increased pricing.

Question after question were presented to the breeder and following that, we agreed a socially distant meeting and fell in love straight away. The breed tend only to have small litters and his included three sisters, who we’ve thus far managed to keep in touch with. He’s the only blue amongst a litter of cream girls.

His mum is local and dad is of Romanian descent, so he will be a well built, strong lad, but only 15-16 inches high and around 5kg at 9 months, which is when they tend to stop growing. We’ve had whippets in the past, so understand the sighthound breeds and already he’s really fast, but has little idiosyncrasies of his own. Probably the biggest misconception of the breed and his bigger cousin, the greyhound, is how much exercise they need/like. They like nothing more than to crawl under a blanket and sleep the day away, but when they do go out, they will bolt at the sight of anything small and furry, however far away, so owners need to be cautious and ready!

This is him now and today is his ‘puppy sign off’ at the local vets, where he will be weighed and generally assessed for development. I intend to take him with me around the country on site visits in the coming months, so thought I should introduce him…
