Well, I said I felt guilty having a mini break after such a long ‘lay off’ during the Coronavirus pandemic, but once there I have to say it was just what the doctor ordered.
Oddly, after over a year of being away from people, I chose to visit a pretty remote part of The Lake District. Staying a mile or so in between two tiny villages in a little studio cottage, I parked the car upon arrival and it didn’t move until the time to return home, preferring to stretch my legs each day. Although things are trying hard to return to normal, not everything is, but thankfully, a couple of lovely pubs flanked me and I spent time getting to know the products on offer!
I averaged around 4 or 5 miles each day and a similar number of pints. After a year teetotal, that was enough. The local food produce was outstanding – fresh and cooked well by local people.
Anyway, back to reality and it did prove how much of a good time can be had on our own doorstep. Yes, the weather is never guaranteed, but a couple of hours up the M6 beats the airport scramble.
Let’s hope the next one won’t be too long…
